Check a Driving Licence

The DVLA are scrapping the counterpart Driving Licence from 8th June 2015. To hire a vehicle you will need to Share Your Licence. This can be done in four ways:

1. On collection of your vehicle produce a print out of your full “license summary” using a check code.
This is done using the website www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number. You will need to enter your Driver number, National Insurance number and postcode. This website will then produce a case sensitive Check Code. This code can then be entered into website www.gov.uk/check-driving-information. You will then be able to view and print your “license summary”.

THIS IS OUR PREFERRED OPTION AND IS FREE OF CHARGE.

2. On collection of your vehicle produce a “check code”.
Access the DVLA website at https://www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number (you will need your driving licence number, National Insurance number and post code to hand).

Enter your driving licence and NI numbers and post code where indicated. Check the consent box and click "View Now". Click on "Share your licence information". Click on "create a code". You can print out the code, or just write it down (but remember, the code is case sensitive) and bring it with you to the office. We will then use this code to view your entitlements and endorsements using the latest information from the DVLA. The access code is valid only for 72 hours, and usable only once.

It means you must generate this code from the DVLA website within 3 days of picking up the vehicle.

There is a cost of £2.50 for this facility.

3. On collection of your vehicle we can contact the DVLA by phone and check your license information.

This is a premium rate phone line. We pass on the average cost of £5.00.

4. On collection of your vehicle produce your Driver number, National Insurance number and postcode.
We will enter this information into the DVLA website and view your license details.

There is a cost of £2.50 for this facility.
